In Chinese ear acupuncture (TCM), the ear is seen as a microsystem which reflects the whole body, just as the foot reflects the whole body in reflexology.
Ear reflex zones are directly connected to the brain areas corresponding to the actual zones on the body.
The NADA protocol is a gentle and supportive technique that focuses on specific points on the outer ear. During each session, clients sit comfortably for around 45 minutes, often enjoying a peaceful break from their day.
Some people feel benefits right away, while others may notice gradual improvements with regular sessions.
Many find the experience soothing and report a natural sense of balance and well-being over time.
Remember firstly that this is a tool that is used alongside all sorts of other things to keep you well, and that the benefits of auricular acupuncture are proven by research. It is not a quick fix, even though some will feel a change even from the first session, but mostly minimum 3-5 sessions, 10 or even 20 times are being recommended, depending on the issue to be balanced.
Significantly reduce stress and anxiety levels
Enjoy better sleep and increased energy
Manage panic attacks more effectively
Stay calm in challenging situations
Take time to relax and reflect
Begin your journey toward a new you
In Chinese philosophy, Yin and Yang are two opposite forces that form a whole. Everything contains both Yin and Yang in a balance that is always changing, such as hot and cold, day and night, and health and disease. In Traditional Chinese medicine (TMC), disease is diagnosed and treated based on the balance of Yin and Yang.
Yin and Yang energies are at the core of all healing. Our bodies are made up of both Yin and Yang and the opposing forces work together to create balance and harmony. TCM practitioners use Yin and Yang energies to identify and manage many health issues.
Yin and Yang is all about understanding one thing in relation to another. All things have some amount of Yin and Yang within them (Holistic view).
NADA was developed by an American doctor who discovered that ear acupuncture could significantly alleviate the withdrawal symptoms of drug addicts in connection with detoxification and psychotherapy.
NADA is short for National Acupuncture Detoxification Association. Since then, it has been learned that the method is beneficial for a wider spectrum of ailments and that it is an excellent supplement to other forms of treatment such as cognitive therapy, mindfulness, stop smoking, diet, fear therapy, post-traumatic stress, self-harm, anger management, sleep problems etc.
On your first visit you may be asked to give written consent to a course of treatment and then for every session thereafter you will be asked for verbal consent. I will check the shape of your ears – everyone is different, just like a fingerprint – so that I can be sure where the needles will go. We will both clean our hands to start the treatment off. I will give you a wipe for you to clean your ear with. Then I will put the needles into your ear, one after the other. You will be asked to breathe in, then breathe out and the needle will be gently inserted on the breath out. Once all the needles are in you will be allowed to sit (preferably) or lie quietly for 45 minutes. Someone will be with you at all times. After the 45 minutes, the needles will be removed.
The needles that are used are very fine and are designed specifically for this treatment. However, sometimes it will pinch a little, but the sensation is brief. NADA trained people are taught the quickest and most painless way of giving this treatment. The best thing to do is concentrate on the breathing in and out instructions that your practitioner will give you.
You will not bleed when the needles go in. You may bleed a little when the needles are removed. However, this is quite normal and you will be given a cotton wool ball to wipe up the blood.
It really depends on the reason for coming and how good an effect you experience from the first treatment. Some are feeling a change already after 1 time, some will need minimum 3 – 5 times, some will need even more times per day. This is possible, since there are no bad side effects by receiving the NADA protocol ear acupuncture. More times per day can be used especially is cases of addiction (smoking, drugs, food, sucker). In order to feel the full effect of the method, I would recommend you, as @NADA-Danmank also recommends, that you receive the NADA protocol in a course of 10 - 20 times, 2 times a week. But don’t forget, we are all unique, so it depends on the reason for coming. If you, for example want to try NADA against exam anxiety, it depends on how deep your fear might be and your reactions on the time you are doing the exam. Sometimes a more intense course is recommended in the run-up to your exam, sometimes we need to start 3 months before. If you have gone through a longer course and are actually “finished”, I recommend that you will come once in a while to maintain the effect or if/when you can feel that the effect is disappearing. I offer special coupons for 10 or 20 treatments.

The 5 points used in the NADA protocol are points from Chinese Ear Acupuncture, but cannot be equated with ordinary acupuncture, as a well-trained acupuncturist will provide an in-depth diagnosis, and the treatment will be far more advanced and targeted. The NADA protocol is developed as a standard protocol where everyone gets the same 3 – 5 points. If you have a more complex problem, I would refer you to an acupuncture treatment by a recognized acupuncturist.
There are five points included in the NADA protocol which have their own functional areas. The method was originally developed in an American hospital to alleviate the withdrawal symptoms in connection with addiction rehab. The points are taken from Chinese Ear Acupuncture, where the body is reflected in a microsystem in the same way as in reflexology.
There are several studies and research investigating the effect of the NADA protocol ear acupuncture for various disorders. I refer to the International NADA pages and NADA-Denmark for summary of research.
Since the NADA protocol started more than 50 years ago, there have not been registered any bad side effects. Though it is common are that the point bleeds a little bit after the needle is removed, and that a small bruise may appear. Rare side effects such as dizziness or fainting may occur, e.g. due to fear of needles or drop in blood sugar.

I have been having acupuncture with Connie for more than a month now, once a week. I began treatment for poor sleep patterns and quite severe pain from an ongoing condition. From the day, following the first treatment, my sleep has improved beyond belief. I rarely have a poor night's sleep now. Also my pain levels are much reduced. Instead of taking analgesics maybe 3 times per day, it is now usually once a day, but some days no medication. Thank you so much Connie.
Initially, I decided to try the ear acupuncture procedure in the hope of improving the condition of my leg - I have a diagnosis of arthrosis. Unfortunately, acupuncture did not help me here. But I noticed changes in my mental state. I began to concentrate better. My performance also increased. I am a software engineer and these changes helped me a lot in my work. Thanks to this, I was able to show myself well in one large project at work. Overall, I am very pleased with the results, although they manifested themselves in a different quality than I initially expected.
